About Me

March 29th, 2008

I am a 32 year old mother of three from England and have had acne since I was about 14.

I would say my acne is moderate but persistant, I get large painful cysts on the lower half of my face (mainly around the chin and jaw area) and often have to take antibiotics to reduce the inflammation. I also have blackheads on my nose and general bumpy spotty skin on the rest of my face. Sometimes my skin can look (in my opinion) quite good for a while and then it can look awful for weeks on end.

I have tried everything from over the counter creams such as Quinoderm, Clearasil, Clean and Clear to oral antibiotics, topical solutions, contraceptive pills such as Diannete and Yasmin and also the topical form of Retin A, Isotretinox.

None of the above have worked  so after a referral to a dermatologist I am going for the last option, Accutane.

I have decided to keep a diary, for myself and for anyone else who is interested.

This photo was taken in January. I was using Isotretinon gel and taking Yasmin contraceptive pill. I had just finished a course of antibiotics as the cyst by my nose had become infected and caused the whole side of my face to swell up. It was as this time I was referred to the dermatologist.
